Arcona 435

The Arcona 435 is a 43-foot Swedish performance cruiser built by Arcona Yachts and launched in 2018. Designed by Stefan Qviberg of SQ Yacht Design as his final project, the boat won the 2019 European Yacht of the Year award in the Performance Cruiser category. It targets sailors who want genuine offshore capability without sacrificing competitive sailing performance, and it is offered in both a conventional diesel version and an electric-drive variant called the 435Z, which uses an Oceanvolt ServoProp sail drive. A refined Mk II edition followed with interior and deck-system updates.

The hull features a plumb bow with a bowsprit, flat aft sections with a soft rounded chine, and twin helm wheels. Three keel options are available: a standard fin, a shoal-draft option, and a deeper racing keel, all using a cast-iron fin with a lead bulb. The fractional sloop rig (7/8 fraction) carries an upwind sail area of 128 sq m and a downwind area of 234 sq m.

The Arcona 435 hull and deck are built using a sandwich construction with Divinycell foam core and fiberglass vinylester laminates vacuum-infused for consistency and low weight. Buyers can specify carbon fiber hull, deck, and spars to reduce weight further. Structural integrity is supported by laminated bulkheads and Arcona's signature galvanized steel girder system. The result is a hull that is both stiff and relatively light for its size, contributing directly to sailing performance.

Interior joinery is executed in Khaya mahogany with a varnished satin finish, with oak offered as an alternative. The fit-out quality is noticeably high for a performance cruiser: fiddles, bulkheads, and cabinetry are crafted with close attention to detail. Headroom is 200 cm (6' 7") at the main saloon hatch and 189 cm at the main bulkhead, comfortable by performance-cruiser standards.

The 435 delivers impressive numbers across the wind range. In Force 3-4 conditions the boat readily achieves 6 to 7 knots sailing close to the wind, and easing sheets to a fetch quickly sees 8 knots or more. With an asymmetric spinnaker set the boat has been clocked above 10 knots. Helm feel through Jefa steering gear is described as responsive and smooth, instilling confidence for both experienced offshore sailors and less seasoned crews.

Cockpit ergonomics support easy single- or short-handed sailing. Six built-in rope bins in the coaming keep lines organized and protected from UV, while the twin-wheel layout gives the helmsman good sightlines to the sails. The fractional rig with its relatively large sail plan rewards good sail trim and makes the boat rewarding to sail in both light airs and stronger breezes.

The standard interior layout provides berths for eight, with a forward owner's cabin, a main saloon, and two aft double cabins. The owner's cabin forward features wide berths accessible from both sides and generous stowage. The aft cabins benefit from additional beam aft, offering berths of approximately 1.58 m (5 ft 2 in) in width. The J-shaped galley is positioned for use at sea, with good workspace and bracing points for the cook.

The chart table area features single-piece laminated fiddles described by reviewers as fine joinery work. The saloon itself is bright and well-ventilated. The hull-depth lazarette aft provides substantial gear stowage with internal lighting. Overall the accommodation is spacious and well-finished relative to other boats in the performance-cruiser class.
